Visit my studio in Queens to learn hand-embroidery! In the course of the afternoon, you will create a 6″ embroidery hoop of your favorite state or country. This is great decor for your home sweet home or it makes a wonderful gift!

You will learn:

-What tools you need to get started

-Basic embroidery stitches for creating line work and texture. You can do a lot with just a few stitches through creative combinations, as well as variation in color and thread thickness!

-How to finish the back of your embroidery hoop

You will walk away with a finished (or well on your way to being finished) piece.

I hope that after this workshop you will be inspired to apply the stitches you learn to your own creative projects!

I will have all the materials prepared for you, including fabric, the wooden embroidery hoop, needles, and a multitude of colorful embroidery floss to choose from! BONUS: You will also receive a complete PDF guide of everything we cover in the workshop along with suggested additional resources.

When you sign up, please e-mail me the state or country you would like to embroider, as well as the style you would like to make. Check out the photos for examples of the two style options:

  1. Outline: You will pick a line work stitch to outline your state/country. You can use other types of stitches in a border or inside the state/country to indicate a town/city.
  2. Negative space: You will combine stitches working around the shape of the state/country. The shape of the state/country will emerge out of the negative space created by the surrounding stitches.

Can’t wait to meet you and share with you the joys of hand-embroidery! It is seriously relaxing. The time flies by, but since this is a longer session please feel free to bring drinks and snacks.

P.S. I have a cat, so please let me know if you have any allergy concerns.

After studying and working in fashion design, I gravitated towards hand-embroidery and experimental surface design. I created my Etsy store, Errant Hart, as an outlet for my artwork which combines hand-embroidery with watercolor - my two favorite mediums! I love to combine techniques and materials in unexpected ways to create unique pieces for your walls or your wears.
