This unique guided walking tour will take you clear across Lower Manhattan from the Hudson River to the East River.

We will honor the history and contributions of the many immigrants from Ireland who have called New York City home and participants will learn about NYC’s rich tradition of welcoming immigrants from all over the world.

After a visit to the Irish Hunger Memorial, we’ll traverse the extraordinary Tribeca neighborhood and Civic Center and then visit the former “Five Points” area depicted in the movie “Gangs of New York”. We will complete this experience with a visit to New York City’s oldest residential neighborhood, the South Street Seaport Historic District, and learn how it was once the world’s busiest commercial port.

At the seaport, there are plenty of places to shop, eat and drink, and you can choose to pay a visit to the Maritime Museum.

Tour led by Hank Orenstein, Licensed NYC Tour Guide, Urban Historian and Licensed Real Estate Broker.

I live and breathe my city! I am a native New Yorker who has lived and worked all over the city. I am fascinated by the many layers of my city's history, architecture and the rich diversity that makes New York unique. With over 400 neighborhoods and over 200 languages spoken in our communities, New York is a spectacular mosaic of culture, cuisine, music and lifestyles - creating unlimited opportunities for exploration and discovery for visitors and locals alike.

Having worked as a visual artist, social worker, tour guide, college professor and real estate professional, my experiences have given me a multi-textured and sophisticated perspective on what makes New York a transcendent place. New York City is where the energy of our people and the urban rhythms of our streets and sidewalks create an unforgettable tapestry.
